With summer on the horizon, parents are looking forward to pressing pause on their honorary teaching role, but can children afford for them to do so?
Meet Karli: Learning Partner Q&A
Karli has been teaching and working with kids for over 15 years! She loves to teach reading and to find new, creative ways for each of her students to learn.
Tell us a little bit about your background as an educator:
I always loved working with kids as a summer camp counselor, at church, or even babysitting! While I was getting my teaching degree, I worked at a preschool as an assistant teacher. I also worked in my college’s writing center as a tutor. Since graduating, I have taught kindergarten, second grade, ESL, and I have also been a Kids’ Director, where I ran after-school programming. I have been teaching and working with kids for over 15 years!
Do you have a philosophy as an educator?
I believe that learning should be interactive, engaging, and creative! Every child is unique, and every child can learn! As a teacher, I want my students to feel loved, confident and empowered. I believe learning is most effective when parents and teachers build trust and work together.
What were you like as a student?
I was the student who got in trouble for reading in class! I have always LOVED books, and I would even read them as I walked through the hallways!
What do you enjoy most about being a Learning Partner?
It is so fun to build relationships and teach students from so many different places! I love that each student is so different. Everyone likes different things and has different learning styles and needs. It is fun to create fun lessons for each of them to help them grow!
If you could take the students on a field trip anywhere, where would you take them?
Disney World! I am a HUGE Disney fan! It is my favorite place in the world. I would love to put on some Mickey ears, watch the parades, go on some fun rides, and eat a Mickey pretzel with my students. It would be such a magical day!
Who was your favorite teacher and why?
My 7th grade English teacher. I struggled with anxiety in school, and this teacher helped me through it! She always let me take a break if I needed it and was super understanding of my feelings
